Himalaya

Well, after a month at the orphanage, I am leaving for Dolpo, a region west of Kathmandu abutting the Himalayas. I will be teaching English at a village school there for three weeks or so. I love the orphans so much, but I will see them again in March when I get back! Being out of the city and in the mountains is exactly where I'd like to be for a while. The movie, "Himalaya" was filmed there if you are curious to see what it looks like!
In the meantime, my friend Melanie and I bonded with a little girl at the orphanage who has some special needs that are not being tended to. With some assistance, we envision her being up to speed with her peers. Michael Hess, the founder of Papa's House where we are staying, is looking into potential full time placements for her that will hopefully meet her needs. Our dear girl is blind and needs a full medical assessment. She also needs physical therapy so that she can learn to walk and overcome some other physical challenges. After that, hopefully she'll thrive! I attached a photograph of her. She has a fantastic laugh, loves attention, and is very spunky! I will keep you posted!
